General Tso baked tofu
Tofu, Tofu, Tofu
Eating tofu was definitely something I had to do more than once before I started enjoying it. When I first tried it I didn’t enjoy the texture, there was no flavor, it was just totally new to me. Tofu can be a major source of protein in a meal so I had to figure out a way to enjoy it.
Things I’ve learned along the tofu road; tofu comes in different firmness levels, my favorite is extra firm. Freezing tofu and then unthawing changes the texture of the tofu, in my opinion for the better. Seasoning and sauces are tofus best friends, depending on the dish I’m making I use my favorite chicken, beef, or veggie seasoning. Lastly the more water you can press out of the tofu the better for stir fry or baked tofu.
Tools needed:
Tofu press or paper towels and a heavy plate
mixing bowl
baking sheet
knife
Ingredients:
Firm or Extra Firm Tofu
2 tablespoons of your favorite meat or veggie seasoning
favorite sauce in this case I used a General Tso sauce
olive oil
salt and pepper to taste
Directions
Drain the water from the tofu package, either put the tofu block in the tofu press or wrap the tofu in two paper towels and sit a plate on top and let it sit for 20 min
Preheat oven to 425 degrees fahrenheit
After the 20 min cut the tofu into your preferred size. I go with cutting it into fifth’s vertically and horizontally so its in squares.
Put the tofu in a bowl and drizzle with olive oil
Season with salt, pepper, and favorite meat or veggie seasoning
Mix tofu and seasoning together using hands until all pieces are well coated
Spread tofu out evenly on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil or parchment paper
Place in the oven and bake for 15 to 20 min until tofu is golden brown
Once removed from the oven toss in your favorite sauce, add to your stir fry or eat plain
