Spring Break Food thoughts
I am super excited, spring break vacation is coming up soon. After a 7-hour road trip, I plan on having fun and relaxing at the pool, taking in a show, doing some shopping, exploring the city, and trying new places to eat. My 11-year-old and mother will be along for the ride.
I have written a blog post about taking road trips and I fully intend to follow all the advice I gave on what to bring to eat along the way and where to stop for food. However, the one piece of advice I won’t be able to follow is to stay in a hotel with a kitchenette. Not having a kitchenette makes me a little nervous because I’m going on this trip with two non-vegetarians. My 11-year-olds diet is about 60% vegetarian, my mother is not a vegetarian at all.
As our trip gets closer, I’ve been thinking about places we can go to eat where we will all be happy, which is a little hard. The good news, my mother is open to trying different food items, and I’m pretty good at finding my 11-year-old at least one menu item at a place of my choosing. However, my mother isn’t going to want new food experiences the whole trip and even though I find what I think is a great meal for my 11-year-old, sometimes she can be picky.
So my game plan is to Yelp and Google vegetarian restaurants in the area before we go and see what breakfast, lunch, and dinner places I can come up with. I’m building a list that has a mix of vegetarian, ethnic, and “mainstream restaurants” that have vegetarian options. The pre-planning is great because it’s one less thing I have to worry about while we are there. I foresee getting takeout from multiple places a few times, but hey we’re on vacation and that’s ok.
