Road Trip Eating

Road Trip Eating

Every year I take 3 to 4 road trips. One of my biggest challenges being a vegetarian is maintaining my healthy eating habits on the road trip and once I’ve reached my vacation destination. A little bit of pre-planning and a phone app can help out a lot. So there’s no stress in deciding what to eat and you don’t eat a bunch of junk food. Here are a few tips I picked up over the years.

  • Pack snacks and make sure to include a few that are healthy and filling just in case you can’t find a place to eat along the way. Examples peanut butter and crackers, hummus and toast, bananas, etc

  • If you like burger’s Burger King is normally along the highway, order the Impossible Whopper cooked in the microwave for a vegetarian option

  • Pick a hotel that has a kitchen. I love staying in Marriott Residence Inn because they have a stove, microwave, and full refrigerator. You can pick up items from the local grocery store for breakfast and a pasta dish like my spaghetti or alfredo recipes. Something that will last a few meals. Dinner one day lunch the next.

  • Once you’ve reached your destination Yelp is your best friend. You can type in vegetarian or vegan and it will come up with friendly restaurants. I always look up the menu to see what my choices will be.
